We are at L3,33 Chandos St, St Leonards, NSW, however Clinical Placements are all around Australia.
DURATION 
The course is two years-completed over 8 semesters of study, allowing students to work part time.

ABOUT THE COURSE
​The 10680NAT Graduate Diploma of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound (General Discipline) is accredited by ASAR and Nationally Recognised.
Sonographers are highly sought after in the workplace and many of our graduates obtain a career before they complete.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

Year 1
USGBDU801 Prepare for a diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGBDU802 Perform a basic diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGRSR803 Manage diagnostic ultrasound records

Year 2
USGADU804 Perform an advanced diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGCAD805 Report on diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
CHCPRP006 Lead own professional development 

Year 1 must be completed before commencement of Year 2
The course is taught and assessed in an holistic manner to produce well rounded & work ready sonographers.

INDUSTRY & ACADEMIC STAFF
Staff are practicing sonographers with training and assessment credentials in small class sizes or 1:1 Scanning tutorials.

SIMULATED HANDS ON LEARNING
We support students with practical scanning skills in a simulated environment bo build confidence and skillsets

CLINICAL PLACEMENTS
Students have the option of:
1. Finding their own work placements or 2. AIHE will also assist students to find work placements within one of our partner Imaging Centres in NSW, VIC, NT, QLD to develop their skills during the course. 
NOTE:
Students are not paid during their work placement and may also be some distance from the student's home.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You can apply if you are:
  • an Australian citizen
  • an Australian permanent resident
  • a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, or
  • a New Zealand citizen

1. PREVIOUS QUALIFICATION
You must have completed one of the following qualifications at least 24 months previously. 

a) Bachelor Degree in Medical Imaging Science (Radiography or Nuclear Medicine).; 
OR
b) Bachelor Degree in a non-imaging medical science (Health related); or
c) Bachelor Degree in a non-health related science followed by a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance* (NOTE the Cert III is 12 months in duration and requires you to find your own work placement, in addition to 80 hours in the workplace. ; OR
d) Advanced Diploma, Diploma, or higher level vocational certificate in the field of Medical Imaging.

PLUS
2. WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE IN HEALTHCARE
You will need to have at least three months experience dealing directly with patients - eg nurse, nurses aid, ambulatory, medicine, allied health, midwifery, radiology, imaging, volunteer in hospital, - if administrative, you may be expected to do additional health work) - (
Sonography exposes students to a range of issues and they need to have a great deal of empathy and understanding of health related issues, the body, physics and biology. Some students may also be asked to complete a physics or biology short course before they are accepted into the course)
NOTE- if your degree is in a non related health science, you will need the Cert III in addition where you will also need to find work place experience in a medical imaging centre)

PLUS
3. ABILITY TO WORK IN AUSTRALIA.

You will need to have the ability to work in Australia .
In accordance with the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) Program Accreditation Guidelines, you will be placed in a Clinical work place for your 2200 hours.

PLUS 
4. LITERACY LEVELS
  • IELTS (Academic):  7.0 or better overall with no sub-score below 6.5 - you will need to show proof of a recent exam if English is your second language.
​RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be applied for if an applicant has already studied with a nationally recognized education provider, or has work experience which is directly relevant to this course. RPL may help gain entry to, or exempt an applicant from some of this course.

Limited placement available


​Most students complete this course in the minimum timeframe of 24 months. However sometimes there are factors which may mean that students take longer including:
-Successful completion of all academic requirements
-Successful completion of all clinical requirements
-Students requesting to defer for a period of time, or to complete clinical placement hours in a less than full time capacity
-Students refusing the placement offered.
-
COVID 19 has reduced capacity for clinical placements and this might mean that it takes longer to complete the course. This is beyond the control of AIHE.

TUITION FEES + FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
This course is eligible for Vet Student Loans of up to $16,077
