ABOUT THE COURSE

Staff are Accredited and/ or practicing sonographers in small class sizes or 1:1 Scanning tutorials.
Work based practical learning
Students are placed in Clinical Imaging Centres to practice their skills during their course of study.
Clinical Placements are in NSW, VIC, NT, QLD and are offered only under strict conditions.
Graduates often placed after the course
Students who are proactive in their learning and show adaptation, professionalism and a can do attitude are often asked to stay after they graduate with the clinic they attended.
NOTE: These may vary in terms of timing, amount of time and dependent on certain conditions within the clinical practice and offers are made based on criteria.
Placements are limited and so therefore students who refuse the placement offered, will not be given a second opportunity.
Students may be placed in a location away from family and this must be considered,

Expectations of students in maintaining study
During this time, students are expected to maintain studies, research, portfolios & be proactive in their approach to learning whilst on Clinical Placement.
Term 1 & 2 - On campus- Face to Face
Terms 3& 4- Clinical Workplace Practice + online learning + assessments
Terms 5&6,7&8 Face to Face + clinical practice + online learning + assessments.

USGBDU801 Prepare for a diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGBDU802 Perform a basic diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGRSR803 Manage diagnostic ultrasound records
USGADU804 Perform an advanced diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
USGCAD805 Report on diagnostic medical ultrasound procedure
CHCPRP006 Lead own professional development
Year 1 must be completed before commencement of Year 2
Note that these units are not taught individually so unless you complete all of Year One, you will not receive a Statement of Attainment
REGISTRATION WITH ASAR
Students are expected to enrol with ASAR as a student before work placement commences.
On completion of the qualification,
The student will then be required to register with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) so that they can practise as an accredited sonographer.
If a student only completes less than the full six Units of Competency, they will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units successfully completed.
Note: they will not be able to be employed as a sonographer if only year 1 is completed.
