Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number
A Commonwealth Higher Education Student Number (CHESSN) is a 10-digit number provided by the Australian Government, to all students who are in receipt of a:
VET Student Loan or other supported loan from their previous learning provider.
The CHESSN is a unique, lifelong identifier used by all higher education providers. It allows you to view details of your Commonwealth-assisted study, including any debts incurred. Your CHESSN is on your Commonwealth Assistance Notice. This Notice is available in the System by 28 days after the census date. To view information on how much Commonwealth assistance you have received, you will receive an email with this information.
VSL students If you have already have FEE-HELP loan from your previous provider, it's your responsibility to keep track of your FEE-HELP balance.
If you choose to take on a Vet Student Loan (VSL) then you are also responsible for keeping track of your GAP fees and ensuring these are paid on time. Failure to make payment will mean you cannot graduate at the end of your course. . Related links
